Youth outreach and culture camp

KCPA Youth Culture Camps

For over 40 years, KCPA has hosted culture camps for Indigenous youth. The camp has historically been a week long overnight camp where youth are immersed in Native languages, intertribal powwow style drumming/dancing/singing, traditional storytelling and other outdoor activities. Through year round fundraising as well as working with local school districts, youth are able to attend camp for free or very low cost.

Due to COVID, 2019 was the last year that camp was held. However our organization is currently in the works of planning a day camp and hope that one day we can host a full summer camp again.

More information coming soon.

The Yoncalla schools sit on traditional Kalapuya homelands and have had an ongoing relationship with KCPA for cultural activities. Komemma Kalapuyan and board member, Shannin Stutzman is the current Indian education Coordinator for both the Grade and High schools. Intertribal powwow style drumming, dancing, and singing is one way kids are introduced to Indian education. Kalapuya language, Traditional Ecological Knowledge and traditional stories are also shared with the youth.

The Indian Education program also serves as an additional layer of support for students who may struggle in certain subjects, offering one-on-one help as well as scholarship and grant search help to graduating seniors.

KCPA partners with the Yoncalla school district to help host an annual intertribal powwow in the Spring. Keep an eye out for next years flyer!
